Tuesday saw Si and myself arrive at Hawkstone Park, as planned it was sunny and hot. Wake up Wednesday morning (the last night for a week spent in a bed!) and it was hammering it down. Jump in the Spring Special and head off site, to pick a few things up. Then we spent all day getting wet through laying out the site for the impending masses, starting with nice empty grass, to a campsite all in one wet day - start of the 'Trench Foot'!

Apologies for the muddy bits of the field, unfortunately the borehole to supply water collapsed a week before we got to site, so there was some last minute trenching to enable us to have water at all - these where unfortunately at the entry / exit from the campsite. The site coped remarkably well considering the amount of rain that fell!

At 8am Thursday morning the sound of rain on canvas and Graham Cashmore's Stiletto are all that could be heard. Then as if by magic people start to appear. By the end of the day the liquid sunshine had stopped and that the field was fast filling up with cars, tents and people. The joke of 'Compact and Bijou' by our esteemed treasurer was soon to seem like a well observed comment.

Friday started with, yes you have guessed if you weren't there, rain, quickly followed by a radio interview on BBC Radio Shropshire, at the unearthly hour of 9.30am. We are sure that the Shropshire massive liked Graham Beddoe's comment about the Dutch guys canoeing around their own little pond - well we wanted to make you guys feel at home!. As the day went on the rain stopped and a last minute 'piss up in a brewery was organised' - just! (with minibus to ensure that those drinking could get home legally - ta to Catherine for organising that), the Salopian Brewery based in Shrewsbury seemed to do a good days trade judging by what people brought back. We believe that all enjoyed the evening's entertainments, which involved a fantastic quiz (bonus points to those of you that noticed the intended 'mistake' with one of the questions), a band called 'Rootes', a DJ, and a special 'home grown' ensemble. A big thanks to all those involved, especially Steve PR, Tim M. Rich B, and Jimmy 'Drum Solo' Crampton, as well as Keith Evans and Steve J. who helped with transport. These Imps just weren't designed to carry a 2K sound system, well other than vans!

Saturday started with that familiar sound. Nervous breakdowns all round. Get out of the tent to find it's only mist. After sorting out the split water pipe the sun comes out for the magical mystery tour trip to Iron Bridge. All that was left to do was 'find' a few more camping pitches for the late arrivals and hoist the glitter ball into position. As sun set on Hawkstone Parks BBQs the school disco started, with a shocking display of white legs, grey shorts, people letting go, cutting some rug, smoke and cars on the dance floor - big thanks to Martin Disley for driving his Green Speedster thing onto the dance floor, it was ace and no mistake.

Sunday saw a mass of cars on the display area, a writhing mass of Impers in the Grand Valley checking out the cars and fighting for that bargain on traders stands and the auto jumble. As you may have noticed the judging was by a panel of randomly selected people (thanks to all of you), and the presentation was a calm and slick affair. Hopefully you heard it all, should you have gone for a walk around the fantastic Hawkstone Park the PA was crystal clear up at the Arch of Narnia! Most of the visitors left on the Sunday night - back to work for most. Normally this would not be sensible, but the rain was spectacular at 9pm on the Sunday, when the remaining Impers returned from food and banter the Golf Club, you know, where the fantastic showers were. Not that we had time to shower, well Si did coz he is a 'lord'.

By Monday afternoon everyone and everything had gone leaving just us, sunshine, the Spring Special and the time to climb you to the Arch of Narnia for a moment of refection. We would like to thank the committee for believing that 2 reprobates could organise an International Weekend, all those who helped out throughout the weekend, Rosemary Smith, Roger Whitehouse and the Team at Hawkstone Park, our other halves - Sarah and Suzi, Si's mum and step dad Ivan, Argh Squiddy and of course Sam Beddoe.

We hope you enjoyed IMP 2002 as much as we did putting it on, and look forward to seeing you next year in the North West somewhere, flat caps, whippets and locking wheel nuts at the ready. Should you have any comments on IMP 2002 please contact us so we can feedback the information to next years organisers. Early warning, you may need you shell suits for 2003's disco! We had a cracking turnout - over 400 cars.

Yes, the camping was a bit tight, but we all fitted in and hopefully you met some new people as a result. Who'd have thought our esteemed editor Grahame Pearson camped right next door to the Gurners! And they got on!
